Blue’s March Madness in the Isle of Palms, SC is over. The ladies of the Manor and I had so much fun. Thank you, Verleiz and Al Lattimore for such a fantastic time. It was wonderful interacting with three of my favorite authors Blue Saffire, S.K. Lessly, and Tiffany Patterson. An extraordinarily good pamper party by MaryKay consultant Tiomoya Owens. I was granted the opportunity to do a personal one on one interview with author Blue Saffire.
An Interview with Author, Blue Saffire
The name Blue Saffire, how was it created?
Blue Saffire: Blue Saffire was prophetically gifted to her after her mother passed.
What is the first book that ever made you cry?
Blue Saffire: Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah and True to the Game by Teri Woods.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Blue Saffire: It depends on the scene and whether that scene is emotional or cleansing. Ballers 2 was very therapeutic for me.
What is your writing Kryptonite?
Blue Saffire: Myself and my health.
Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?
Blue Saffire: Anybody can be a writer not by emotions only. There are visual writers, those that make readers visualize the scenes has the reader is reading the words.
If you could tell your younger writing self-anything, what would it be?
Blue Saffire: Write the f*@king book. Write until she could not write anymore.
When she was younger she did not know that writing could be so therapeutic, if she did she would have begun writing long ago.
How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Blue Saffire: The first book changed her process. The first 5 books taught her what not to do and where she did not want to be.
What is the best money that you have every spent has an author?
Blue Saffire: March Madness. It was a way for me to give back to my readers as well as a way for me to move forward on other streams that will stem from this.
What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
Blue Saffire: The way her father spoke to them at home. As early has three-years-old she learned that words had power. She is very outspoken and does not allow anyone to take advantage of her.
Do you view writing as a spiritual practice?
Blue Saffire: Yes, writing is her ministry. She will soon enact her plans for a literacy program.
What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters of the opposite sex?
Blue Saffire: She does not find it difficult to writing her male characters. She and her husband are truly yin and yang.
How do you select the names of your characters?
Blue Saffire: She is horrible at picking names, her characters tell her their names. Her characters are based off real people and situations. The physical appearances of her characters are real.
What was your hardest scene to write?
Blue Saffire: When Reese was praying in Ballers 2. That scene was a very emotional and therapeutic for her. By the time she finished it was a blubbering mess. God told her she needed to show it.
If you didn’t write, what would you do for work?
Blue Saffire: She would write music; she must create. She needs to create to breath. She can sit for days and get lost in writing. Not being able to create is what she would find most difficult to do.
Do you believe in writer’s block?
Blue Saffire: No, she does not believe in writer’s block. Everything she does come from above.
What is the one thing you would give up to become a better writer?
Blue Saffire: She does not give anything up. She will, however, remove negative people and people who have not apart of her assignment from her life.
How many books unpublished and half-finished books do you have?
Blue Saffire: started and stopped 4 books. During March Madness, she spent time editing books. There was an additional book she intended to give out at March Madness, but it was not finished and she wanted to give her readers the full story.
How do you find the time to balance all your projects?
She is still trying to find the balance. She wants her readers to have an experience when reading her books.
How is the Blue Saffire membership get started?
More drama is what inspired the group that leads to the Lost Souls Motorcycle Club series and the Blue Saffire membership.
Blue’s March Madness
How did Blue’s March Madness come to about?
Blue Saffire: Originally, another author and I were going to host an event, but it fell through and I wanted to move forward because this event would play a vital road in helping me push forward my literacy program for children.
This author’s schedule is full and she still finds time to give back. Her upcoming schedule is full of events such as RT in Georgia and Blue’s Give Back 2018.
Thursday night’s meeting and greet were full of fun and games as authors Blue Saffire, S.K. Lessly, Tiffany Patterson, and the ladies of the manor had so much fun playing an
interactive story game called the Left-Right Game and conversing with each other.
Friday activities began with a breakfast buffet, with delicious food and conversation with the other ladies. The next event after breakfast was the MaryKay Pampering Party by MaryKay Consultant Tiomoya Owens, where the ladies and I were treated to tips and prizes. We learned how to properly apply cleanser, foundation, and eyeshadow. The lunch buffet was a delicious array of pasta with chicken or claims, salad, and dessert of tiramisu.
The evening events were kicked off with Madness Reveal Gift Bag Giveaway. Each person at the event received a gift bag full of swag, and we play games where prizes were won. Blue made some announcements one of which Ballers would be made into a movie. Yay! Also during the night, we got to write a story with Blue Saffire and finally what we were waiting for Blue Signing of pre-ordered books. To top the night offer ladies were treated to ‘Something New’ a late-night romance movie.
Saturday’s events kicked off with an author panel interview with S.K. Lessly (Ruined, Desired, Desired Too, My Addiction, Obsession, and Obsession Too) and Tiffany Patterson (Black Pearl, Black Dahlia, Black Butterfly, This Is Where I Sleep, and Forever). If you have not read books by these authors (Blue Saffire, S.K. Lessly, and Tiffany Patterson) what are you waiting for, if the IR genre is not your thing, it is time to try something different.
After the author panel interview, a private author luncheon, which was delicious some ladies had an entrée of chicken or salmon with sides and dessert. Authors S.K. Lessly and Tiffany Patterson brought books for purchase and signing. After the signing ladies went to rest up for the final event Party with Live DJ.
Party with a DJ, we had so much fun and it was great watching the ladies bust a groove on and off the dance floor. As some of us went around the room taking pictures and expressing our desire to see each other at the next event. We had the opportunity to take pictures with author Blue Saffire.
I look forward to the next event Blue Saffire’s Give Back July 13-15, 2018 in New York. See you there!
